About Our lesson Program

At Sallee Equestrian, our goal is to create a safe, encouraging, and beginner-friendly environment where riders can build confidence, learn strong horsemanship skills, and develop a genuine love for horses.

Our lesson program is designed for beginner riders ages 6 through adult, whether you are getting into the saddle for the very first time or returning to riding after years away. We believe every rider deserves patience, support, and lessons that move at their own pace.

Students learn more than just how to ride. Our program focuses on building a strong foundation in:

  • Horse safety and confidence around horses

  • Grooming and basic horse care

  • Tacking and handling

  • Balance and riding position

  • How to use your riding aids correctly and basic riding skills

  • Respect, responsibility, and horsemanship

We understand that learning to ride can feel exciting and sometimes intimidating, especially for beginners. That is why we strive to create calm, positive lessons that help riders feel comfortable, capable, and proud of their progress.

Meet Your Instructor:

Rene Sallee

Hi, I’m Rene, your instructor!

Horses have been a part of my life for over 20 years, and teaching beginner riders has become something I truly love. Over the years, I’ve gained experience working with riders of different ages and backgrounds, including previously teaching riding lessons for Girl Scouts.

My passion is helping riders feel safe, confident, and comfortable around horses while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment. I understand that starting something new can feel intimidating, especially with horses, which is why I focus heavily on patience, safety, confidence-building, and creating lessons that meet each rider where they are.

Whether your simply learning the basics, gaining confidence in the saddle, or building a lifelong love for horses, my goal is to make lessons fun, supportive, and rewarding for every student.

I believe horseback riding is about more than just learning to ride, it’s about building confidence, responsibility, connection, and trust both in and out of the saddle.

Neurodivergent Children welcome!

We proudly welcome neurodivergent children and children on the autism spectrum. We understand that every child learns differently, and lessons are approached with patience, flexibility, and encouragement to help each rider feel safe and supported.

Lead line lessons are available for riders who may need extra guidance or confidence while learning. As both an instructor and a mother of four children on the autism spectrum who are also learning to ride, creating an understanding and supportive environment is something very personal to me.

Siblings Ride Together!

Many siblings feel more comfortable riding together, enjoy sharing the experience, and learn just as much while still receiving personalized instruction.

It also makes scheduling easier for parents. Your children can ride during the same lesson instead of your family spending two or more hours waiting. To keep lessons safe, organized, and engaging, group lessons are limited to a maximum of four riders.

Meet Our Horses

Meet Whiskey

Whiskey is what we lovingly call our “unicorn” and babysitter horse. She has a calm, gentle personality and takes wonderful care of beginner riders, making her the perfect confidence-builder for those just starting their riding journey.

Whiskey is the definition of an “in-your-pocket” horse and loves attention from her riders. She is a great match for nervous or first-time riders learning the basics in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Meet Cranberry

Cranberry is our sweet, gentle gaited mare who offers an incredibly smooth and comfortable ride. Though she has had a difficult past, she has found a new purpose in our lesson program, where she helps children build confidence, develop their riding skills, and discover a love for horses.

She has a kind heart, enjoys gentle scratches along her neck, and will never turn down a tasty treat. Cranberry is a wonderful reminder that with patience and love, every horse can have a fresh start.

Meet Katie

Meet Katie, a wonderful lesson horse for our more confident riders who are ready to take their skills to the next level! Katie can be a little testy at times, which teaches students to ride with confidence, use clear communication, and stay consistent in the saddle.

She is a great partner for riders who have mastered the basics and are ready for a fun new challenge. Katie helps students improve their balance, strengthen their cues, and become more independent and effective riders.

Meet Cassie

Meet Cassie, our sweet and gentle lesson horse who is especially wonderful with our littlest riders! Cassie is calm, dependable, and truly bombproof, making her the perfect partner for young beginners who are learning to feel comfortable around horses.

Her patient personality allows children to learn at their own pace while building confidence both on the ground and in the saddle. Cassie takes wonderful care of her riders and helps make every lesson feel safe, positive, and fun.

Whether you’re looking for a fun new hobby, riding lessons for your child, or finally taking the leap to learn horses yourself, we would love to welcome you! If you have any questions feel free to contact us, we’d love to hear from you!
